Summerhill Community Ministries is commited to providing quality programs and activities geared towards uplifting Atlanta's inner city community. A full listing of these programs and services is listed below:
After School Program
We offer a free After-School Enrichment Program for Elementary and Middle School students focusing on fostering a positive, supportive Christian environment for young people to be able to achieve academic success, build character and develop life skills. Children are picked up from school, given a nourishing snack, helped with their homework or tutored, supervised for safe outdoor/indoor play, and transported back home. The staff works closely with the student's teachers and parents to assist them in the areas they struggle in the most. We also concentrate on improving reading and math skills as well as preparing students for standardized tests. Many of the children experience improvement in their academic and conduct grades. The ASP provides a safe place for kids to come to during the after school hours so that they are not left alone at home or on the streets to fend for themselves.
Youth Night
Youth Night is an informal gathering of teens who meet at least twice a month to fellowship with one another and discuss issues that affect their lives. Leaders are able to build relationships, listen, counsel, and encourage the kids.
Sports Programs
Our Sports Programs are an important part of our ministry. We offer organized league play in Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football and Baseball. Our volunteer coaches focus on teaching the players about sportsmanship and teamwork in an atmosphere that promotes growth, trust, and openness to God's Word and His plan for their lives.
Family Referral & Counseling
As we minister to a child, we often uncover family needs as well. Families often may find themselves in need of food, temporary shelter, transportation, money for utilities or a listening ear. Many families are struggling with chemical dependencies, spousal abuse, grief & loss or child-rearing difficulties. We often are called upon to be a resource, advocate, and a safe haven for those who are hurting.
Summer Camp & Job Training Program
During the summer, we offer a seven week Summer Camp to the kids in our community. Our camp is a quality camp where the young people can receive love and encouragement from staff and caring volunteers, and participate in enrichment activities, service projects, and field trips. Each day is filled with activities like: Bible study, music, recreation, dance, and arts & crafts. In the past years, many children have prayed to receive Christ into their lives.
